Party Disqualification: Peter Obi Asks Court To Dismiss PDP’s Suit

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, is asking a Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking his disqualification for nominating his campaign manager, Doyin Okupe, as his placeholder.

Last week, the Peoples Democratic Party had asked the court to bar Obi from replacing Okupe as his running mate.

³

The PDP had also prayed the court to prevent the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, from replacing Kabiru Masari as his running mate.

In the suit, the PDP also asked the court to disqualify both Obi and Tinubu if they replace Okupe and Masari as their running mates.

But both candidates have replaced the placeholders. Obi picked Yusuf Baba-Ahmed as his running mate, while Tinubu went for Kashim Shettima.

Responding to the originating motion, via a notice of preliminary objection, dated July 18, Obi’s counsel, Mr Alex Ejesieme (SAN), is seeking an order of the court striking out or dismissing PDP’s suit “for want of requisite jurisdiction”.

The objection by Obi to the PDP’s prayers is based on four grounds.

“The plaintiff’s suit is speculative, conjectural in nature and devoid of hard facts, thereby divesting this court of jurisdiction to adjudicate over same,” read the first ground.

Next, Obi’s counsel said that the PDP “has not disclosed any reasonable cause of action to activate the jurisdiction” of the court.

Obi’s counsel added that the PDP’s suit “is not situated within the jurisdictional confines of the Federal High Court”.

“The plaintiff’s suit is a gross abuse of court process,” Obi’s counsel added.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB and heads of tertiary institutions in the country have fixed the minimum cut-off mark for admissions in the 2022/2023 academic session.

Nelson Mendela International Day.United nation celebrate mendela's day. Here are what United nation suggested you can do to take action and inspire change.

Today we should all ask ourselves: What have I done to improve the surroundings in which I live? Do I litter or do I protect my surroundings? Do I buy stolen goods or do I help reduce crime?  - Nelson Mandela

fist
Take Action! Inspire Change!

As Mandela said: It is in your hands to make of the world a better place. And so, every year on Mandela Day, we ask people around the world to take action and inspire change by making a difference in their communities.

If you would like to donate your own time to public service, here are some things you can do to take action and inspire change:

  • Make a new friend. Get to know someone from a different cultural background. Only through mutual understanding can we rid our communities of intolerance and xenophobia.
  • Read to someone who can’t. Visit a local home for the blind and open up a new world for someone else.
  • Help out at the local animal shelter. Dogs without homes still need a walk and a bit of love.
  • Help someone get a job. Put together and print a CV for them, or help them with their interview skills.
  • Many terminally ill people have no one to speak to. Take a little time to have a chat and bring some sunshine into their lives.
  • Get tested for HIV and encourage your partner to do so too.
  • Take someone you know, who can’t afford it, to get their eyes tested or their teeth checked.
  • Donate a wheelchair or guide dog, to someone in need.
  • Buy a few blankets, or grab the ones you no longer need from home and give them to someone in need.( United nation)

PTA Teachers Apologize To Anambra State Govt. And Education Commissioner, Prof. Chuma-Udeh

PTA Teachers Apologize To Anambra State Govt. And Education  Commissioner, Prof. Chuma-Udeh

PTA teachers in Anambra State Schools have appolgised to the Government of Anambra State and Education Commissioner, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, for insubordination and refusal to key in to the ongoing teachers' recruitment exercise in Anambra State.

The unreserved apology was tendered on behalf of the PTA teachers by Mr. E. E. Egbo, while leading a delegation of the the group, who were before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions, to present a petition on alleged unlawful termination of appointment.

In a reaction to inquiries from the members of the State Assembly Committee on Public Petitions, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh stated that the Government of Anambra State, gave a directive for PTA teachers in the State to key in to the ongoing teachers' recruitment exercise in line with the continuous teacher upgrade program of the present administration.

The Education Commissioner, Prof. Chuma-Udeh who appreciated the Assembly members for the knowledge and maturity with which they carry out legislative business of the State, stated that no record of PTA teachers was handed over to her on assumption of office. Commissioner Chuma-Udeh informed that when a delegation of the affected teachers approached her on the matter, she advised them to heed the directive of the State Government, to enable qualified ones among them get recruited.

The Education Commissioner however regretted that rather than do the needful, some of the affected teachers resorted to all kinds of nefarious activities, ranging from insurbodination, the use of social media against the Government, to physical disruption of activities designed to recruit teachers that would train Anambra children in line with the requirements of the digital era.

BREAKING NEWS.Prime minister UK :Boris Johnson Agrees To Resign As Prime Minister. See why

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, facing widespread defections in his Conservative government, said Thursday he is resigning as the party leader but will stay as the caretaker prime minister until a new party chief is elected.

Johnson said it is "clearly the will" of his Conservative Party that there should be a new leader. Johnson also said that in the meantime he would remain as the country’s leader, although critics said he should be ousted as soon as possible.

His announcement came after about 50 government officials, including several senior Cabinet ministers, resigned amid calls for Johnson to step down

It wasn't immediately clear when Johnson would leave office. His resignation will lead to an internal election within the Conservative Party to pick a new leader, who will also be the next prime minister. The process, however, could take weeks, with several party members already eyeing the top spot.

Johnson had clung to power for two days, defiantly rebuffing calls for his resignation. He told lawmakers on Wednesday that he had a "colossal mandate" from voters to stay in office.

He was forced to concede Thursday morning after two more members of his Cabinet quit and one of his closest allies, Treasury Chief Nadhim Zahawi, publicly told him to resign for the good of the country.

Breaking Ike Ekweremadu: Again , For Second Time remanded over UK organ-harvesting

Former Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, was, again, remanded in police custody, yesterday, by the Uxbridge Magistrate Court, in the UK, following insistence by the prosecutor that the alleged kidney donor, David Nwamini, was 15 years old.

He will next appear at Westminster Magistrates' court on 7 July.

No bail application was made and Mr Ekweremadu will remain in custody.

Part of the alleged offence was committed abroad and as a result the consent of the attorney general is required for the case to continue.

He faces a charge of conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person for exploitation under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Mr Ekweremadu's wife Beatrice, 55, is charged with arranging or facilitating the travel of another person for exploitation and will appear in court later due to a delay in her transport from prison.

Earlier this week the Nigerian Immigration Authority denied the victim was a child.

The comptroller general, Idriss Jerre, said the victim's birth certificate and National Identity Number, which were presented during registration for his passport, showed that he was 21 years old.

In response the Metropolitan Police said the child was 15.

The report further added that because part of the alleged offence was committed outside of the United Kingdom, the consent of the attorney general was required for the case to continue.

Ekweremadu faces a charge of conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person for exploitation, under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Beatrice, 55, according to the report, will appear in court later, due to a delay in her transport from prison.

On Wednesday, Ahmad Lawan, Senate President, had said the Senate would dispatch a delegation to the UK to see Ekweremadu and his wife.

“The High Commission has done so much, but we still expect that it will continue to provide consular service. And we have also mandated our committee on Foreign Affairs to engage with the British Commission here in Nigeria to find more details on this case, as far as the high delegation is involved.

“There will be a delegation to London to see the former deputy Senate president. A delegation from the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs will leave in the next two days to London for that purpose,” Lawan had said.

Also, yesterday, Enugu State government expressed deep concern over the ordeal of  Senator  Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, in the United Kingdom.

A statement by the government described Senator Ekweremadu as an illustrious son of the state and a foremost senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
